Hi Scott,

how difficult would be a 'convert arcs to linesegments' - feature ?

Thanks

Hi Richard,

I don't think this would be difficult at all. How would you like to specify the number of segments that the arc gets broken into? We could use degrees, number of segments, segment length, chordal deviation.....

Scott,

since a too fine segmentation will create a too long program I think you could try the double or triple of the arc length in degrees :

i.e.:

arc length = 90 degrees = 180 segments or

arc length = 90 degrees = 270 segments

perhaps as input between 2 and 5 as factor.

The milled result will show what is the best value.

Thank you,

Richard

Richard,

Can I ask why you would want to do this?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,
the reason is I found some time ago this thread in the VCarve-Forum :

http://vectric.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=656&highlight=

and coz I had some elements of the Vectorart3D-Collection I wanted to mill on columns. After a lot of experiments I succeeded in writing a little script which converts plane nc-progs with linear moves into angles to mill on columns.

But now I have some files with arcs and circles to convert and reached the borders of my programming capabilities.

Richard,

This shouldn't be a problem, I'll see if this can be added for the next update.

Scott,

what would be your price for a customized version for adding the calculations I do with the autoitscript I mentioned in my link above ("wrapping a plane G-Code around a column") ?

Richard,

I'll take a look at it. I don't think it will be difficult but I'll check it out and see.
